Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima on Saturday took part in an 18-hole golf tournament at Lilongwe Golf Club to raise funds for the purchase of medical equipment for Kamuzu Central Hospital.
The tournament dubbed ‘Malawi Ryder Cup’, is an attempt by the golfers and the private sector to compliment government’s efforts of improving health service delivery to the citizenry, and managed to raise K26.7 million.
The raised funds will enable the hospital to purchase X-Ray Machines, Ultra Sound Scanners and Blood Chemistry Analyzers.
Chilima captained Team Malawi while Michael Nevin, British High Commissioner to Malawi, captained Team Rest of the World.
Organizers of the tournament plan to make The Malawi Ryder Cup an annual event to benefit different noble causes.-Mana
