Malawi national football team started the 2016 COSAFA Castle Cup bid on a high note by beating Angola 3-0 at Independence Stadium in Namibia.

Striker Gabadinho Mhango grabbed a hat trick to win the man of the match accolade. Earlier Lesotho beat Mauritius 3-0 in Group B opener.

The experienced Flames overcame the young and inexperienced Angolans to claim their first three points from their first game in Group B and to equal Lesotho on points and goal difference.

BidVest Wits-bound striker Mhango became not only the first Malawian player to net a hat-trick in the COSAFA Castle Cup, but the first player to get more than one goal for the team in an international competitive match.

Here is Flames’ starting line-up against Mauritius:

Midfielders: Joseph Kamwendo, Rafiq Mussa, Gerald Phiri Junior and Isaac Kaliyati.

Strikers: Chiukepo Msowoya (C) and Gabadinho Mhango.
