Nyasa Big Bullets centre-back Miracle Gabeya celebrated his birthday with a winning goal for Flames in high spirited game against Mauritius at Independence Stadium in Windhoek, Namibia on Tuesday night.
Gabeya, who turned 24 on Tuesday, scored the only goal of the game in the 47th minute to keep the Flames in the contention of qualifying from Group B to the quarter-finals of the regional tournament.
Gabeya headed in a well taken corner-kick by Gerald Phiri Junior to ensure the Flames are tied at six points with leaders Lesotho who have a goal superior.
The team could not do otherwise but to spoil the star of the day by presenting him a surprise of birthday cake.
By look of things, the team was in happy spirits and could not miss single detail in helping their colleague enjoy the day in double celebration- scoring the winning goal and turning 24.
The team trained on Wednesday afternoon as they prepare to face Lesotho this evening in the final Group B game, to determine who proceeds to the quarter-finals of the tournament. They will hope Gabeya produce similar performance against the group leaders.
Flames coach Ernest Mtawali has not minced words but being frank by telling his charges that the team’s destiny at tournament is in their own hands.
