Silver Strikers Football Club Board of Directors has fired the team’s executive committee effective Thursday 21st April, 2016 for failing to fully commercialize the club.
In a press statement made available to Malawi Punch signed by the team’s Board of Directors vice chairman and spokesperson, Chikumbutso Kalilombe, the board has decided to dissolve the Oscar Mabulekesi led committee during its board meeting held on 19th April in Lilongwe.
According to Kalilombe, the club’s Article of Association gives them powers to dissolve and appoint new executive committee members.
Kalilombe described the development as normal, saying they have since appointed new executive committee to look after and run the affairs of the team.
The new committee is being chaired by Ralph Tseka who is the Head of Risk Management at Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) deputized by Goodall Chinjoka. Patrick Mbiriyakula and Andrew Mpakule have been appointed as Treasurer and vice Treasurer respectively with Lawrence Yobe and Assed Mgomba as executive committee members.
Blantyre based Innocent Kadamanja has been appointed as Team’s Liaison Officer, and the board’s secretary, lawyer Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda has been appointed as the club’s acting General Secretary as the board is still searching for possible candidate to take up the position.
In interview with Malawi Punch, Kalilombe described the board’s decision to dissolve the committee as normal, saying the board normally meets to review the running of team and making changes from time to time.
He said as Board of Directors, they have an aim to fully commercialize the club and that this is one of the things to be done by the newly appointed executive committee.
The board is expected to soon meet the new executive to discuss on the expectations from the new committee.
Kalilombe has since applauded the outgoing committee for their contributions citing several silverwares the 47-based team won.
