Penniless Malawi Govt Does Magufuli’s Style, Cancels Independence Day Celebrations

Government has come out in the open and discloses that this year’s Independence Day celebrations will not take place because of the economic difficulties the country is facing.

Malawi celebrates Independence Day on 6th July every year, and in Magufuli’s style, President Peter Mutharika’s government has decided to shelve the celebrations as an austerity measure that the country should not hold celebrations to mark 52 years of independence from the UK.

Instead government plans to hold National Service of Worship at the Bingu International Conference Centre in the capital Lilongwe.

Independence Day celebrations are usually marked with a presidential address, a military parade and performances by music groups at the stadium with a national football match.
