Zomba Farmers Embrace Irrigation Farming

Agricultural officials in Zomba have been impressed with irrigation activities which farmers in the district are currently undertaking as one of the measures of mitigating food shortages facing the country.

Zomba district Agricultural Development Officer Patison Kandoje said that 60 percent of farmers in the district did not manage to yield enough maize, thereby creating a food deficiency.

Over three million people will experience food shortage this year, a development which has forced government to engage farmers in irrigation farming as one way of mitigating the food shortage crisis.

“My visit to some parts of the district indicated that most famers have started engaging themselves in irrigation farming which is a good initiative considering the food shortage the country  is facing this year,” said Kandoje.
