Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR) Executive Director, Timothy Mtambo has challenged President Peter Mutharika to uphold the principle of accountability to his subjects and stop using intimidation.
Mtambo in a press statement issued on Monday said was greatly disturbed with Mutharika’s growing dislike for deadlines.
“The President has on several occasions openly said that he does not take deadlines, blatantly challenging the citizens issuing ultimatums as day dreamers. During the recent dialogue meeting with Public Affairs Committee (PAC) the President condemned any attempt aimed at giving him deadlines. The conduct was, however, only reminiscent of similar sentiments during the NAC-gate and Access to Information sagas,” argues Mtambo.
According to Mtambo, Mutharika’s conduct is very unfortunate at its best, and undemocratic at its worst.
“President should not run away from accountability by challenging citizens to stop issuing deadlines. There is no way Malawians will let their leader govern them as they please”.
