Police in Salima district have intercepted a minibus which ferrying 79 bags of Cannabis Sativa (Chamba) from Nkhotakota to Blantyre using an uncharted route.
According to Salima Police Public Relations Officer Gift Chitowe, each confiscated bag weighs about 35 kilograms.
Chitowe said the law enforcers pounced on the minibus Nissan Caravan, registration number MJ 2647 following a tip-off.
“Following the tip-off we mounted a roadblock at Yonamu village in Salima and managed to corner the bus,” he said.
Meanwhile, police have impounded the vehicle and it is parked at Salima Police Station pending for disposal once the court case is concluded.
