Police in the tobacco growing district of Kasungu on Friday 22nd April,2016 burned 40 bags of Indian Hemp which was being kept at Kasungu Police Station and at Kasungu First Grade Magistrate Court.
The operation took place at Chiwengo dumping site. Present at the operation were police officers, representatives from judiciary, District Commissioner and District Heath Office.
The Indian Hemp was confiscated from various convicts who were arrested and subsequently convicted and sentenced by court of law to different fines as per the gravity of the offence, failure of which were sentenced to serve a jail term.
Some of the Indian hemp belonged to some suspects who eluded the law-enforcers when cornered in possession of the prohibited drug.
In related development, police in the same district of Kasungu have arrested a 40-year-old man Felix Malunga for allegedly being found in possession of assorted medical drugs
without a licence.
Malunga was arrested on Thursday 21st April 2016, when police on patrols together with Pharmacy
Medicines and Poisons Board of Malawi were tipped of the unlicenced peddler.
Malunga wa found in possession of assorted medical drugs which include Asprin (five packets), Ethromycin (four packets), Chlorophenical (two packets), 800 tablets of Penicillin, Magnesium (two packets) and Doxycline (two packets).
The suspect who hails from Dickson village, T/A Kanduku in Mwanza district, will appear before court soon to answer the charge of Being Found in Possession of Medical Drugs without a licence.
