Armed robbers who broke into Nkhata-Bay FMB Branch are still on the run, Malawi Punch understands.
The six culprits equipped with panga knives invaded the bank’s premises by attacking two G4S security guards before venturing into the bank building where they walked away with electric equipment worth 2.7 million Kwacha.
According to Nkhata-Bay Police Public Relations Officer, investigations that may lead to the arrest of the six are underway.
“When police arrived at the scene on Friday, the robbers had already left the premises and investigations to the arrest and possibly take the suspects to court are currently under way.
“Once arrested the suspects will be charged with the offense of Robbery with Violence which contradicts section 301 of the Penal Code,” said Esau.
Nkhata-Bay FMB Branch Manager, Victoria Saka confirmed that the incident happened after they had closed that day’s institutional business.
