On Monday President Peter Mutharika condemned the continued abduction and killing of people with albinism, arguing the malpractice has forced the world to label Malawians as foolish and ignorant.
Mutharika was speaking in Kasungu during the commemoration of the International Albinism Awareness Day.
He said the abduction and killing of people with albinism has brought shame to the country, adding government has put in place a comprehensive national response to deal with the barbaric act.
“The judiciary has set up a special prosecutor to handle cases of crimes against people with albinism and we expect only professional magistrates to preside over the cases so our brothers and sisters get the justice they deserve,” he said.
Meanwhile, Malawi has commended both international and local organizations for supporting government effort in dealing with the challenge.
