The Malawi Electoral Support Network (MESN) has asked donors to start supporting the electoral process soon after the country holds elections to ensure stakeholders have ample time to prepare for the polls.
MESN chairperson Steven Duwa said most of the times donors release the funding close to the elections which makes the preparations difficult.
He also appealed to stakeholders which form MESN to work together, as experience during elections has shown that some of the network members operate in isolation, creating confusion on how MESN as a network work.
“The problem we face is that donors release the funding when elections are close , and we find it difficult to sort some of electoral issues as a result we manage the necessary resources with pressure against time,” said Duwa.
he added: “I would like to encourage unity among MESN stake holders to operate as an organization because there are some members in the network who works independently this brings a lot of confusions among us”.
