MBC Touching Base Presenter resurrects in hiphop: His new song premiers in Ghana

Malawi’s celebrated TV personality Rex Chalenga, host of youthful programme ‘Touching Base’ on Malawi Broadcasting Corporation Television has announced his music come back with the release of his new song titled ‘Sleepless Nights’ a remake of No Sleep Gang’s.

Speaking to Malawi Punch, Rex said his come back is to revive Malawian hiphop which is losing taste on its highway.

“People should expect good hiphop they can listen and relate to. Malawian hiphop is slowly losing track and i want to revive it,” said in an exclusive interview with this publication.

Rex’s brand new song premiers today in Ghana on Xlive Radio Station and will hit local airwaves tomorrow on MIJ Fm, Dziko Fm and Timveni Radio during the day and Radio 2 Fm in the evening and will be available for downloads on Saturday.

Dj Marc Wood from Ghana said the development has just started and more Malawian songs will be feautured in his Africa Hiphop Express Show.

“I have always admired efforts by Malawian artists as they are really good and that Africa will just love to hear Malawian songs,” he said.

However Rex said premiering his banger in Ghana is not in anyway mearnt to undermine Malawian industry.

“I chose Ghana because i wanted more international feedbacks and Ghana is very active when it comes to music,” pointed out Chalenga who his song has become the first Malawian song to be premiered in Ghana.

He further highlighted his plans to release two mixtapes before end of the year.

Rex took music path in 2002 and his journey was golded when he met DJ Maas in 2010 and started doing serious music before taking a break in 2014. He has in his account 200 songs and 2 mixtapes which are to be released this year.
