Machinga district police in conjunction with all the stakeholders have rolled out awareness campaign on the abduction and killing of people with albinism.
The campaign comes amid increased in cases of abduction, killing and tampering with albino graves.
The campaign aims at, among others, ensuring that people in the district are well informed on cases to do with violence against people with albinism.
According to statistics, between January and May last year, Machinga district registered 10 cases of abduction, killing and tampering with Albino graves while this year, the district has so far registered five cases of the same nature representing a 50% decrease.
Recently, the campaign organizers held a match led by police band, police officers, representatives of different stakeholders and scores of people who came from different parts of the district.
Traditional Authority Ngokwe has since asked police to post more police officers at Ngokwe police unit with the aim of strengthening security in the area.
Mrs Emmie Chiumia Vice President of Association of People with Albinism has called on guardians who have children with albinism to take care of their children by controlling their movements.
