Poor medical services at  Lobi health Centre in Dedza worries Pregnant women as some health workers who assist  in maternity wards attend their duties while drunk.

Group village Chipse told Malawi punch that the behavior of some health workers at Lobi health centre is putting lives of pregnant women and new born babies in danger.

Chipse said the health workers who assist pregnant women in maternity wards attend their duties while drunk a development he described as worrisome.

He said this is scaring more pregnant women in the area and they now prefer to be assisted by tradition birth attendants.

Chairperson of health advisory committee Mr. Frank Jere said pregnant women are losing their new born babies when delivering due to negligence of the health workers.

According to Mr. Jere they have been asking the health workers to change the behavior and concentrate on the job.

Mr. Jere observed that the development by health workers at Lobi health centre has forced all pregnant women to shun the hospital services starting from this week on Monday.

In his remarks district health office public relations officer for Dedza hospital Anold Ndalira confirmed receiving the complaints from most women but said they are investigating the matter.
