Livingstonia Synod Doesn’t Recognize Eid-al-Fitr Holiday, Orders Employees To Report For Duty

The Synod of Livingstonia, under the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) has ordered its employees to report for duties on Eid-ul-Fitr holiday or face the chop, Malawi Punch has learnt.

Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development  has declared Thursday, July 7, 2016 as Eid-ul-Fitr Public Holiday.

But in a Memorandum issued on Tuesday which was signed by the out-spoken Livingstonia Synod General Secretary  Reverend Levi Nyondo, the synod does not recognize Eid UL-Fitr as a holiday.

” write to inform you that 7th July is not a synod holiday. Please note that all synod employee are expected to report for duties on Eid UL-Fitr,” said Rev Nyondo in a Memo.

The Memo further said that Education Department in the Livingstonia Synod set aside 7th July as ‘Synod Day’ not Eid-ul-Fitr.

Eid-ul-Fitr is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan.
