The department of climate change and meteorological services has warned fishermen and all Lake Malawi users on the impending Mwela winds.
In interview with a Malawi Punch, head of public weather services in the department Edina Kuluranga said Mwela winds come with a huge magnitude thereby causing high waves which she says are deadly especially to fishermen who use small canoes.
Kuluranga has advised all Lake Malawi users to take heed of the warning to avoid deaths which may occur due to non-compliance.
“We are expecting to have Mwela winds which are to start by Sunday (12th June) and this is expected to occur in 2 to 3 days. Normally these winds are very dangerous,” said Kuluranga.
