Kamuzu Day: Govt Hails Kamuzu Banda’s Achievements

Government says it appreciates the role the late Ngwazi Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda played in developing the country.

Every year, Malawi celebrates the life of the country’s first President on 14th May.



Government’s Spokesperson Patricia Kaliati told local media that Banda instilled the basics of how Malawians ought to conduct themselves if the country is to develop.

A member of Chendawaka Family Ken Kandodo said this year’s celebrations are expected to take place at Chilanga CCAP Mission in Kasungu.

Kandodo said the family organised their own activities to celebrate the life and achievement of
this Father and Founder of the Malawi Nation, a title he was fondly used to be described by in his 30-year rule of Malawi.

The holiday was declared by late President Bingu wa Mutharika, saying he always held the former Head of State with the highest esteem through the various infrastructure that speak volumes of the development foundation of this country.

Among others, Kamuzu was brain behind the construction of Capital Hill, the lakeshore road, and the University of Malawi that specialized in breeding the highly educated technocrats such as lawyers, lecturers, engineers, architects, nurses, high school teachers and doctors.
