According to the information that Malawi punch gathered, Justice Mkandawire has been using his personal  vehicle since he returned home in 2014 from Namibia where he was  working at the Sadc Court.

“Lawyers and court users returned on Tuesday without being assisted as the judge who was supposed to be motion judge did not show up. There were several cases which he was supposed to hear since he is motion judge but all failed because of his absence,” said the source.

In an interview,  Judiciary spokesperson  Mlenga Mvula  confirmed the development but attributed it to a breakdown of the Judge’s personal vehicle.

He also confirmed that government is yet to buy a vehicle for Justice Nkandawire as is the case with the rest.

“Lilongwe High Court Senior Deputy Registrar says his personal vehicle he has been using all along has got a break down hence he couldn’t go to office. Once his vehicle has been fixed everything will be back to normal

” However, It is not true that he has boycotted hearings due to failure by govt to buy him a vehicle. If that was the case then he could have boycotted way back. He is a such competent and hardworking Judge.” he said.

A motion judge is any judge on duty who deals with any matters that come before the court at a particular day.
