Police in Nkhotakota has staged an investigation to trace a motor vehicle which is believed was involved in a hit and run accident in the district.
According to police, villagers of Vyovyo were on wee hours of Thursday 10, this week wake up to a distressed episode after a fellow villager was killed on a hit and run accident.
Police in the district are yet to identify the vehicle and driver who claimed the life of Billiat Zibero, 33, and died on the spot at Vyovyo village on M5 road.
“This sorrowful incident occurred on Thursday 10, this week, around 3 O’clock in the morning,” confirmed Williams PK Kaponda, Nkhotakota Police public relations officer.
Mkaika Police Unit also confirmed that they were informed of the incident early in the morning of the occurrence.
“We were informed by the villagers that at Vyovyo someone is laying lifeless on the road.
We rushed at the place to confirm and we concluded that the deceased was hit by a motor vehicle,” said traffic officer inspector Martin Jere.
Post-mortem at the district hospital indicates that death was due to several head injuries.
The deceased Billiat Zibero hailed from Nsindu village in the area of senior chief Mwadzama in Nkhotakota district.
Meanwhile police are appealing to drivers to report every accident to avoid a repeat of the incident.
