Police in Kasungu district have arrested 32-year-old Kennedy Benesi for offering his nine-year-old son for sell.
The suspect was arrested on 3rd July, 2016 after the man he approached to buy his son informed the police.
According to police, Benesi approached a certain shop owner (name withheld) on 29th June,2016 and told him that he wanted to negotiate a deal about his nine-year-old son.
Considering that the suspect was drunk this day the man did not take him seriously.
On 30th June,2016, Benesi approached the shop owner again while sober and talked about the same business. This made the shop owner suspicious and informed the police.
Benesi was cornered by the law-enforcers who posed as interested buyers. he negotiated with them a price from K1.5 million to K1.3 million after which he was arrested upon getting evidence.
He will arraign to answer the charge of Selling a Person as a Slave which is contrary to Section 267 of the Penal Code.
Kennedy Benesi hails from Nduwa village,Traditional Authority Wimbe in Kasungu district.
