Police Officer-In-Charge in Chikwawa district is under investigations following his alleged involvement in the spate killings of people with albinism in the district with information revealing that he pockets money to shield the culprits, Malawi Punch can reveal.
Officer-In-Charge Assistant Commissioner Macmillan Nyirongo has been embroiled in a hullabaloo that has devastated the nation as currently people with albinism are living fear of being hunted and killed for their body parts.
Information Malawi Punch has sourced indicates that Nyirongo is currently being investigated by national police head office for allegedly pocketing K500, 000 from a suspected albino killer businessman Bashir Henery Goba- who heads a gang of assailants hunting and killing albinos.
The issue of the bribe came to light after some junior officers were stopped from pouncing on Goba in relation to a killing of albino man in the district, and the matter was forwarded to the head office who instantly initiated the investigations.
“It’s difficult to disclose more details of our investigations right now, but we are making leads,” disclosed a senior police officer who confirmed to us of the investigations.
Goba and his gang are said to be the ones who killed a 20-year-old albino in Sub Traditional Authority Ndakwela in the district in Marc h this year. The deceased identified as Namphiri Ling’awa was killed with help of his brother Thomas Linga’awa- Goba’s associate.
Malawi is grappling with a spate of abductions and killings of people with albinism whose body- parts are believed by some misled sections of the society that can magically be used to make one rich. However, there is no proof to this theory.
According statistics, since 2014 over 60 people of albinism have either been abducted or killed in Malawi. The country has a population 10,000 of people with albinism.
