Court Jails Man For Trafficking People to South Africa

A 20-year-old man Abdul Yasin is set to spend nine months in prison for trafficking people to South Africa, Ntcheu First Grade Magistrate has ruled.

Yasin was cornered this week aiding 26 people to travel to South Africa using Biriwiri border.

Police in the district said the trafficked people no travelling documents and Yasin who comes from Piyasi village in Traditional Authority Chowe in Mangochi district was the one facilitating the trip using his vehicle.

Yasin appeared in court on Friday and pleaded guilty to Trafficking In Persons contrary to Section 14 (1) OF Trafficking In Persons Act.

First Grade Magistrate Chrispin Sachuluka said Yasin deserved custodial sentence with no option of a fine.

The court ordered that all the 26 people should sent back to Mangochi.
