Liwonde First Grade Magistrate Court on Thursday (19th May, 2016) convicted and sentenced a 28-year-old man identified as Ojesi Nankonde to a 14-year-jail term for defiling his 10-year-old step daughter.
Nselema Police Unit prosecutor, Inspector Richard Kandeya told the court that Nankonde on the 6th of this month took the victim to a nearby bush to look for traditional herbs for toothache that the victim was suffering from.
However, whilst there, Nankonde defiled the victim who later on narrated everything what happened to her mother.
It was the mother who reported the matter to police, leading to Nankonde’s arrest.
The victim was referred to Chikweo Health Centre for medical examination and treatment. The findings indicated that the victim was indeed defiled.
Nankonde was charge with Defilement contrary to Section 138 of the Penal Code.
Liwonde First Grade Magistrate Esther Phiri said she has a responsibility to protect rights of children more especially girls and therefore slapped Nankonde with a custodial sentence.
