Police in the Southern Region have arrested six people for being found in possession of foreign currency without proper documents.
Assistant Public Relations Officer for Police Peter Mchiza confirmed the arrest.
The arrest follows another one in Mwanza where the law-enforcers apprehended six Congolese nationals for illegal entry into the country.
In related development, Chisenjele Magistrates Court in Lunzu, Blantyre on Thursday convicted and ordered 60 people arrested on various offences to pay a K5, 000 fine each in default serve three months jail term.
Blantyre police arrested the 60 people during a sweeping exercise conducted on Thursday morning.
23 of them were charged of rogue and vagabond, 17 of illegal vending and 20 were charged of touting, Blantyre police publicist Elizabeth Divala explained.
“All suspects appeared before the court where they were found guilty and sentenced to pay a fine. 51 of them paid the fine while the remaining nine failed to do so and are being kept at Blantyre station,” said Divala.
