Karonga Magistrate court has sentenced a church clerk, Moses Mbukwa to four years imprisonment for stealing K3 million.
Mbukwa, who was working at St. Steven’s Kasantha Parish in Karonga Diocese, is said to have stolen the money from the Parish and used it to start his own business .
he pleaded guilty to the theft offence.
Passing the judgment, first grade magistrate Chakaka Nyirenda said the maximum sentence for the offence is 14-years imprisonment but Mbukwa was given four years because he is a first offender and had accepted the charges.
Mbukwa comes from Tradition Authority Mwakaboko in the district.
