Albino Boy Disappears In Dedza, Police On The Hunt

Police in Dedza district have intensified investigation into the mysterious disappearance of a 17-year-old albino boy who went missing on Thursday (21st April,2016) last week.

The boy has been identified as Fretcher Machinjiri and is a standard seven pupil at Thete Primary School in the district.

Dedza Police spokesperson Edward Kabango said on Thursday 21st April the boy went to watch football at Thete football ground, but never returned home.

“We are therefore appealing to the general public to help our officers with information that may help find the boy,” said Kabango.

Fretcher Machinjiri hails from Nambirikira village in the area of T/A Kachere in the district.

His disappearance comes at a time Malawi has been grappling with brutal attacks and exhuming of graves of people with albinism whose body parts are believed by some quarters to possess magical powers to make one rich or bring about good luck.

Recently police in central region arrested 10 people for allegedly killing a young albino woman aged 21 who was trafficked from her home village in Dedza district last month after being promised a job in Madisi, Dowa.
