A 12-year-old has died in Mangochi after taking a poisonous concoction, and police have since started hunting for the herbalist who administered the poisonous substance.
Mangochi Deputy Police publicist Amina Daudi identified the deceased as Duncan Lonadi.
Daudi said the boy was made to drink the concoction which his father had obtained from the herbalist in a bid to help them catch unknown thieves that stole the family’s goats.
“Unknown criminals stole the goats of the deceased father and when efforts to find them proved futile, the father sought help from the herbalist who administered the concoction on the family,” said Daudi.
Daudi said when the family -father, mother and the two children- took the concoction, they all started vomiting heavily.
They were rushed to Mangochi district hospital where the deceased died while receiving treatment.
She said the deceased’s father and his elder brother were admitted while the mother was treated as an outpatient.
Postmortem indicates the death was due to poisoning.
Meanwhile police are hunting for the unknown herbalist who is expected to answer a murder charge.
Lonadi hailed from Salanje village, Traditional Authority (TA) Chowe in the district.
