Police in Chiradzuru are keeping in custody the District Health Officer (DHO) Gift Chinemba in connection with the missing of medical drugs worth K10 million.
Chiradzuru Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Sergeant Victoria Chirwa confirmed the arrest.
Chirwa said their investigations revealed that between February and March this year, Chinemba has been signing letters authorizing the purchase of various drugs that never reached the hospital.
She said the suspect will soon appear before court soon to answer charges of Theft by Public Servant contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code.
The arrest comes three weeks after a driver Isaac Bakali and Anderson Msuku Pharmacist were arrested suspected to have been part of the plot.
Chinemba hails from Mpowola Village in the Area of Traditional Authority Kuntumanji in Zomba.
The development happens months after Health Minister Peter Kumpalume admitted that drugs worth K5 Billion are being stolen annually in government hospitals.
