The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development said it is committed to vaccinating all dogs in the country as one way of eradicating rabies.
Minister George Chaponda was speaking at Mitundu Trading Centre in Lilongwe during the launch of the 2016 National Ant-Rabies Vaccination campaign.
Chaponda said statistics show that people continue to die of rabies in the country.
“150 people every day are bitten by dogs and contract rabies, and we know that about 40 percent of those attacked by dogs are children. The government is committed to make sure that we provide enough medical care,” said Chaponda.
“We know that the vaccination it’s expensive but still we are committed to ensure that we are protecting people against rabies as it incurable”.
He has since advised those who have animals such as dogs and cats to vaccinate their pets
