The University of Malawi (UNIMA) is seeking government’s approval for the upward adjustment of tuition fees for normal entry students.
In a meeting the Unima council held some few days ago, it was unanimously agreed that the fees should be hiked.
The development comes barely a month after the council hiked tuition fees for its constituent colleges’ mature and generic students.
Following the hike, mature students at Chancellor College (CHANCO) will be paying K900, 000 while Polytechnic students will be paying K950, 000.
Mature students at Kamuzu College of Nursing will be required to pay K1 million while those at the College of Medicine will be required to pay K1,400,000.
Signed by the University registrar Benedicto Malunga, the memo indicates that the University has agreed to vary fees for mature students
All the students that will be admitted in the 2016/17 academic year will be subject to the new fee change.
Meanwhile, the National Council of Higher Education is yet to start accrediting and regulating operations of higher learning institutions.
The council was established to regulate universities with intent to conduct periodic reviews of all accredited institutions, with those found to have inadequate provision having their licenses revoked.
