Police have arrested two candidates for alleged cheating in the on-going Junior Certificate of Education (JCE).
The two identified as Joseph Mataya and Liphet Gambatula.
Mataya 23 was arrested at Nasawa Community Day Secondary School in Zomba Rural Education district on Friday 3 June 2016, while Gambatula 21 a student at God’s Power Private Secondary school in Lilongwe was arrested during Mathematics paper after being found cheating.
Besides, Mataya pleaded guilty to the charge of being found in possession of unauthorized reference materials contrary to Malawi national Examination Board (MANEB) Conduct of Examinations Regulations section 29 (7) as read together with MANEB Act section 14 (8).
The court set 6th June 2016 for his ruling, and if convicted by the court he will face a maximum of a 2 year jail term or fine of MK50, 000.00.
Meanwhile, MANEB has withdrawn some of invigilators and security officers from their posts due to negligence. The two invigilators stationed at Mitundu CDSS cluster centre in Lilongwe were found by MANEB officials basking in the sun while examination was in progress.
MANEB in Chizumulu Island on 5th June, 2016 also withdrew a police officer stationed at Chizumulu Health Centre distribution centre for leaving his post unattended without a reasonable cause.
The officer, Sergeant Botha, could not be found at his post at 9:30pm on Friday and on Saturday at both 4:20am and 8:30am. He has since been replaced.-MBC
