Government has endorsed the proposed tuition fee-hike by the University of Malawi (Unima) for normal entry students.
Unima Council sought government’s approval on the proposal to upward adjust tuition fees for normal students after it was unanimously agreed that the fees should be hiked.
The hike will follow another adjustment Council made for its constituent colleges’ mature and generic students.
Mature students at Chancellor College (CHANCO) are now paying K900, 000 while Polytechnic students pay K950, 000.
Mature students at Kamuzu College of Nursing pay K1 million while those at the College of Medicine pay K1,400,000.
All the students that will be admitted in the 2016/17 academic year will be subject to the new fee change.
Meanwhile, the National Council of Higher Education is yet to start accrediting and regulating operations of higher learning institutions.
The council was established to regulate universities with intent to conduct periodic reviews of all accredited institutions, with those found to have inadequate provision having their licenses revoked.
