Some employees of STECO, one of the companies belonging to well-known business person Leston Mulli in Thyolo district have not been receiving salaries close to four years.
According to some of the workers who did not want to be named, since 2012 the company has been failing to pay them.
Mulli is one of main financiers of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and his businesses are connected to the Mutharika family.
Six security guards who spoke to Zodiak claimed despite several negotiation attempts with the management they are not being paid.
The workers said that they are seeking legal advice on how to handle the matter.
“We want to consult lawyers on the matter, we have tried all we could to resolve the matter indoors, but all efforts prove futile. Whenever we approach our responsible leaders, they always shout at us angrily and threaten to fire us,” complained the workers.
But Mulli who owns Mulli Group of Companies challenged the workers to go anywhere and complain on their grievances.
Muli could not deny or admit that he has been able to pay some of his workers at STECO. He advised those complaining of not being paid to go to the labor office to lodge their complaint.
“I know why these people are coming to you as the media, instead of going to labor office and complain if I am not paying them their salaries; they are being dishonest,” Muli said.
Mulli challenged that people should stop focusing on his companies and his life and instead focus on how to fight hunger which is in many parts of the country.
