MRA Impounds Mesh And Cosmetics Worth K1.5 Million

The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) in the northern region has impounded a motor vehicle suspected to have been used to smuggle goods worth K1.5 million into the country.

The goods which include cosmetics and mesh worth K1.5 million were being smuggled into the country from Tanzania through Chama in Zambia.

According to MRA, the motor vehicle and the goods are being kept at its premises in Mzuzu pending conclusion of investigations.

In related case, MRA has also detained two men for being found in possession of 28 bales of mosquito nets.

The two are, 34 year-old Yolamu Mtambo and 25-year-old Akim Mishani both from Katutula Village in the area of Tradition Authority Mwaulambya in Chitipa.

The bales contained mosquito nets which government is distributing for free. The two men have since been handed over to police at Chikangawa Road block.
