Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has with immediate effect suspended operations of the YB’s Restaurant opposite Livingstone Towers in Blantyre; Steers and Debonairs in Blantyre; and Dairi-board Malawi opposite Kamuzu Stadium.
The three companies have been suspended due to continuous non-compliance to hygiene conditions as stipulated in Malawi Standard Number 21; Food and Food Processing Units – Code of Hygiene Conditions.
MBS Information Officer Moses Gwaza said the inspection by MBS officers noted that the institution compromised hygiene standards, putting lives of consumers at risk.
“Our inspection team noticed that some hygiene conditions according to MBS are bad hence we have suspended their services until they rectify the problem,” said Gwaza.
He said the suspended companies will resume their operations once they meet minimum hygiene conditions.
Malawi Bureau of Standards is a statutory organization established in 1972 by an Act of Parliament with a mandate of promoting standardization of commodities and of their manufacture, production, processing or treatment and further to provide for matters incidental to or connected with standardization.
Recently, MBS also suspended operations of several food units, supermarkets and hotels including Shire Highland Hotel, Malawi Sun, among others.
