The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has with immediate effect suspended operations of Smallholder Tea Factory located in Mulanje and Bakelines Limited located in Kanengo, Lilongwe failing to conform to hygienic standards.
The suspensions have been effected due to continuous non compliance to hygienic conditions as stipulated in Malawi Standard Number 21; Food And Food Processing Units – Code Of Hygienic
“The MBS wishes to advise the general public against patronizing these units until the hygienic conditions have been improved and the suspension lifted by the MBS,” warned MBS.
recently, MBS pounced on Limbe People’s Butchery, People’s Supermarket Bakery (Victoria Avenue), Namiwawa People’s Bakery and Zomba Metro Bakery, which are managed by Chikaonda- a long time foe of ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Chombe Foods Limited and FADAMZ Rice Milling also faced the suspension over lack of hygienic standards.
Meanwhile the suspension for Blantyre Metro Bakery and Take Away has been lifted after improving their hygienic conditions as recommended by the bureau.
Lingadzi Inn, Capital City Motel and Seven Eleven bakery situated in Kilipula building in Lilongwe, Café Lounge situated at Chichiri Shopping Mall, Blantyre were also once suspended due to continuous non compliance to hygienic conditions.
MBS also once suspended operations of Shire Highlands Hotel, Malawi Sun Food Court and Chibuku Breweries Limited, among others.
Malawi Standard Number 21; Food and Food Processing Units –Code of Hygienic Conditions- empowers the bureau to suspend operations of any institution that offers its services to the public if not complying with hygienic standards.
