Government through the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, has demand that traders should get registered before purchasing farm produce in the country.
Spokesperson for the Ministry, Wiskess Mkombezi told MBC that all agro dealers buying farm produce from farmers will have to get registered before commencement of their operations.
Mkombezi said the aim is to ensure sanity in the industry.
“We cannot afford to just have illegal traders looming in our rural areas getting the agricultural produce from farmers without following what the law provides,” he said.
Mkombezi explained that business licensing Act provides that before traders start doing their business they should be licensed to avoid ripping out farmers.
Mkombezi also appealed to traders to follow Agricultural General Act and Business Act.
He however, said so far the traders are coming up to register and that license for produce
trading can be obtained from the Ministry of Agriculture.
The response in terms of business Licensing is very good as a lot of people have been licensed, according to Mkombezi.
